October by Bríd Lyons

Our Rating 4/5

Bríd Lyons continues to establish her voice within Ireland’s contemporary folk landscape with October, a beautifully restrained meditation on love, loss and the changing of the seasons.

Built around acoustic guitar, banjo and violin, the arrangement never competes with the songwriting. Instead, it allows Lyons’ warm, expressive vocal to carry the emotional weight, moving naturally through a story of a relationship that fades as summer gives way to autumn.

What sets October apart is its refusal to overstate its message. Rather than leaning into dramatic heartbreak, Lyons explores the quieter reality of acceptance, acknowledging that not every love story is destined to last. That emotional honesty gives the song its strength.

Recorded at Windmill Lane Studios, the production is understated and organic, leaving plenty of space for the song to breathe. Every musical choice serves the narrative, creating an atmosphere that feels intimate without becoming overly sentimental.

October is another confident step forward for Bríd Lyons as a songwriter. Thoughtful, beautifully performed and emotionally grounded, it demonstrates an artist increasingly comfortable allowing simplicity and sincerity to do the heavy lifting.
